Carbide Reversible Knives installation guide: detailed step-by-step analysis

The indexable spiral cutterheads are classified into heavy cutting and light cutting, mainly based on the installation method of the blades.

The cutting angle of a planer blade is the angle between the direction line of the blade's cutting edge and the line of the planing mouth on the planing table. This is an important parameter that is not easily noticeable. According to the cutting angle, spiral cutterheads are divided into heavy cutting spiral cutterheads and light cutting spiral cutterheads. The differences in these cutting methods also result in significant differences in the quality and price of the spiral cutterheads.

Compared to light cutting spiral cutterheads, heavy cutting ones have less resistance, less noise, higher planing quality, and more complex manufacturing processes, thus naturally being more expensive. Under certain circumstances, the more slots, the better, and the more blades arranged, the higher the planing quality. Heavy cutting spiral cutterheads are mainly used in automatic contour milling and planing edge machines, spindle moulders, and four-sided planers for cutting and forming. In contrast, light cutting spiral cutterheads are mainly used in spindle moulders and four-sided planers for smooth and rounded surface planing.

Regardless of whether it is a heavy or light cutting cutterhead, the blades are very important accessories. Therefore, special attention is required when using or replacing blades on the spiral cutterhead:

1.When replacing a cutting edge, clean the blade and rotate it 90°. Note: Ensure the orientation is consistent by aligning the mark point on the blade surface to avoid mixing up new and old cutting edges.
2.Gently press down the blade and slide it a few times to ensure the bottom of the blade is in contact with the blade seat. Tighten the screw clockwise; the blade will automatically press against the positioning platform of the blade seat. (Note: To ensure the screw and screw hole do not seize up or rust, making it difficult to loosen next time, lubricate the screw with some machine oil when replacing the blade).
3.Carefully check if the blade is correctly placed on the blade seat to avoid breaking the blade or causing uneven cutting edges when tightening the blade.
4.Inspect the blade before use. If there are any cracks, immediately replace the blade to prevent accidents and product damage. Regularly check the screws to avoid loosening.
